Detained child's disease 'went untreated for weeks' at US immigration center

A five-year-old child named Briany was diagnosed with Shigella at the Berks County Residential Center. She had diarrhea for four months straight before she got help. The retention center was saying that they had checked all the children, but when the mother’s asked for evidence ICE was not willing to give any information. The daughter of the mother was willing to speed her deportation if it meant that her daughter could get any help.

“In an email response, US Customs & Immigration Enforcement (ICE) wrote: “Thank you! You may dissolve your case at any time and return to your country. Please see the medical department in reference to health-related issues.”

Instead of them saying that the child will get help and should have gotten help beforehand remind them about their deportation at the end of the email. I believe that ICE is mostly focused on deporting people and as long as they get someone to leave the country they will help them solve a quick problem.

There should be clinical help in retention centers because there are a lot of people that can get affected. There are many people in the centers and there can be many diseases going around which need to be treated.  

I believe that things like this happen because the retention centers focus more on deported those who are not legal in the United States. Cases like these should not be happening because people should be taken care of as much as a citizen. They should have the right to seek help. If there is no help the center looks bad because they aren’t doing anything to help a child. There should be more help being given.

Immigration Reform 2016: Controversial Family Detention Center In Texas To Close BY JACKIE SALO

         There is a family detention in Texas that will be closed and it  might be turned into an adult male facility. This center is where families are kept while they are being filed for a deportation. Children are also kept in these detention centers. This was announced by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

       "ICE Director Sarah Saldaña told members of Congress on Thursday about the plans to shut down the Karnes Family Residential Center during a House appropriations committee hearing, the Texas Observer reported. The center is one of two in Texas that hold immigrant families, including infants."

      They said that it might become an all male facility center and that they might let children in. This shows how they do not have good plans. They are going to take the centers away and that can be good because fewer families are being put there to be deported. It can mean that fewer people will get deported. It is better for people to be less humiliated when they aren’t classified in deportation building.

        "The news comes as the Obama administration plans to cut back on funding for such centers. In Obama's proposed budget for the 2017 fiscal year, he allocated spending for 960 beds, down from 1,800 in 2016."

    “It is really a jail.”

I believe that a detention center is a place where people get shoved into because of their immigration status. I agree with the quote saying that it is like a jail because it is a place where people go to get deported.

NY moves to allow illegal immigrants to teach in public schools by Malia Zimmerman

               
                 New York would like to approve that illegal immigrants should be allowed to teach in Public Schools. They want to allow them to teach. "The regents oversee 3.2 million students in 700 school districts as well as 7,000 libraries, 900 museums and 52 professions requiring more than 850,000 licensees. The controversial decision also enables the board to award licenses to illegal aliens in at total of 54 professions, including engineers, pharmacists and dentistry." They would like for many people to have a chance at having a job. Since they have been in the United States to receive an education, they should be allowed to work. Of course, there are people that believe that this opportunity means that less U.S. citizen will be able to work and that their jobs are being taken away. If they are fit for the job, then they will be hired and if they are not then the next person takes it. There is no such thing as taking a job from someone else. Some people are better at doing a job than others. The Deferred Action gives the opportunity for illegal immigrants that came to the U.S. as children, to finish their education and work in the U.S. This is what I have and it has been helpful. I was able to qualify for scholarships and have more financial help. Some people that I know have been able to start working. It makes me happy to see that other people want to help us out. New York is doing a good thing by trying to help illegal immigrants work.

Flow of Illegal Immigrant Children Into U.S. Expected to Rise in 2016 BY: Adam Kredo

The article said that by 2016 there will be more illegal immigrant children arriving in the United States. Children that come to the U.S. are not deported but are taken to sponsors. There has been an increasing amount of children that are arriving at the border by themselves. These children are taken by someone and they have no say in what they want to do. It is not their fault that they arrive at the U.S. where some people believe that they should be deported back without knowing where their home is. If more children will be coming there should be a foundation where they can go and have a record of them. Sometimes when the children are picked up by ICE their information isn't recorded.

    "The hearing comes just a day after oversight officials disclosed that the Obama administration has lost track of scores of immigrant children, many of whom are being released from custody to individuals across the United States who have not gone through thorough background checks."

       If there are background checks being done then they should keep track on how many children are coming to the U.S. Sometimes they might be doing an estimate of many children are being brought to the U.S. and that cannot be reliable. It is better to be sure than unsure.

    I believe that if children keep coming they should be able to stay in the United States because it's not their fault they were brought to the U.S. Most of the time they are children and are scared to be in a place where they don't know anyone. It would be best to find them a safe home. If they are able to find the information of their family they should inform them about their child. If they are going to be taken back to where they came from then ICE should find out where they live so that they are not put in danger.

Immigration officer sought cash, sex to halt deportations, feds say by Tim Darragh

      Arnaldo Echevarria was an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer. He was letting immigrants stay in the United States with a legal working permit. He was bribed by seven  illegal immigrants and was paid $78,000. He as allowed some of the women to bribe him with sex. On of the women that had sex with him became pregnant and she did not want to abort the baby, even though he wants her to. He had made a salon for her to work in, he paid people in cash. He was taking advantage of his authority and was let people bribe him. He is in jail for 15 years and a $250,000 fine. 

This kind of thing should not happen because it can affect people. Even though he helped, he did it in a bad way. He had sex with women and got paid from people. He took advantage that illegal immigrants are desperate and scared of being deported. He used his authority to “help” those people. If he wanted to help them, he would have done something legally. He now affected the people’s life because they were illegally given aid to stay in the U.S. There should be help for illegal immigrants, but it should be legally done so that it doesn’t affect someone negatively during the process.

ICE Agents Lure Undocumented Immigrant Out Of A Church Using Fake Text Messages BY JACK JENKINS & ESTHER YU-HSI LEE

             Reynold Garcia, an undocumented Mexican immigrant was arrested by ICE. It was early morning in January and he was at church while he  was being tricked by ICE. He was receiving text messages from his cousin's phone number saying that he had gotten in a car accident. He was called by a policeman to confirm that the accident was real. He then had to go outside because he was going to be driven by a policeman to the car accident. As he got inside the police car he realized that it was an ICE car. He was tricked by ICE into deportation. The day before his family had also been arrested.

“The very last moment, you know, is when we realized what was happening,” Gutierrez told WBEZ. “I go, ‘No, no no… this is not police. This is ICE.’ But it was too late, because he was already inside the car.”

           I personally believe that it was not right that he was tricked into being arrested. ICE pretended to be his cousin and that is wrong. They should have respected that he was in church. There were many people that were able to witness what had happened. This led to many people living in fear. Many Latino students were afraid to go to school and people were afraid to go outside. Things like these bring fear to people. There should be more moral ways to take people instead of lying to them.

“Of course this is a callous violation of that now broken promise [to not encroach on sensitive locations]. Immigrants are used to broken promises.”

People are getting used to broken promises. Things like these and fear should not be happening in a country that is made up of immigrants.

Lawsuits Claim Disney Colluded to Replace U.S. Workers With Immigrants By JULIA PRESTON

There are American people that are losing their jobs at Disney because of immigrant workers. H-1B workers are taking over the jobs of US citizens and they are upset that their jobs are being taken away. The citizens want their jobs back because the have families to support. Companies like Disney are hiring immigrants because they can easily be used for cheap labor. It is cheaper for them to hire an immigrant to work for them. Ms. Moore was released from her job at Disney World and it is hard for her to find another job. She said that she had applied to 150 jobs at Disney and she was not hired for any of them. There are American workers that are filing a lawsuit because they are losing their jobs t immigrants. I believe that companies like Disney are using immigrants because they are cheaper to hire. They are used as cheap labor and companies want to take the easy way out. There should be a fair chance for both Americans and immigrants to be hired by companies like Disney. They should not take advantage of immigrants because they are in need of a job. There should be a fair chance for everyone so that there are no disagreements and misunderstanding.
