How Immigrants Fit Into America's Economy, Now and 100 Years Ago by GILLIAN B. WHITE

Immigrants have been coming to America for a long time looking for jobs and a better lifestyle. The article says that it has become harder for people to immigrate to America because of the high immigration policy. The immigration policy has become very strict. The article explains how there are different categories that immigrants fall into. They are either well educated and can work in high paying jobs or they are not educated and it takes them longer to establish themselves in America.
“Positive selection happens when immigrants entering the U.S. from a particular country are generally those with high levels of skill and education. They leave because they are in high-demand in America, and can easily find jobs and earn a good wage. Negative selection happens when immigrants with low-skill levels are the primary groups leaving a country.” (Article)
I believe that people should be allowed to come to America and get educated so that they can work in a better job. If they are hired for a job it is because they worked hard to be where they are. They worked hard to be in that position. If someone else thinks that immigrants are taking their jobs, then they should work harder to receive what they deserve. Working hard and getting where you want to be should not be looked down upon.
“As far as the deleterious impacts on wages and the U.S. economy that immigration critics are so afraid of, there’s little evidence to support the theory that overall, immigration is harmful to U.S. workers.” (article).
There are people that are moving from where they live because they believe that their jobs are being taken away. I personally believe that if you work hard, you will get to where you want to be.
